Apple advises iPhone 14 owners about activating iMessage and FaceTime.

Today, Apple has made available a support document outlining known difficulties that may arise during the setup process for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro.

It is possible that iMessage and FaceTime will not activate correctly on iOS 16.0. Some users have reported problems with receiving iMessages, or FaceTime calls after updating to iOS 14. In contrast, others have seen green bubbles instead of blue ones while corresponding with other iMessage users.

In a nutshell, iOS 16.0 introduces additional setup problems for devices that affect activation for iMessage and FaceTime. Unfortunately, many people are buying iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max today, and all of these devices come preloaded with iOS 16.

The good news is that these issues were fixed in yesterday's release of iOS 16.0.1 by Apple.

According to Apple, problems with iMessage and FaceTime should be fixed in the most recent version of iOS. Before you even get to the home screen, your new iPhone can try to sell you an upgrade as part of the setup process. If you haven't already done so, after purchasing iPhone 14, navigate to Settings > General > Software Update to install the most recent software update.

After updating to iOS 16.0.1, if you are still experiencing iMessage and FaceTime difficulties, you may need to make minor adjustments to the iMessage settings. Apple recommends beginning in Settings > Cellar and verifying the presence of an active phone line.

Launch Send & Receive under Settings > Messages. Select the contact you'd like to send messages to by tapping its name. Access the phone number you'd like to use with FaceTime by going to Settings > FaceTime.

Following those instructions, you can reactivate your iPhone 14 and return it to regular operation.
