TikTok introduces a universal dislike button for user comments
The hate button for comments has been under limited testing on the TikTok platform since April 2022, and the company has now announced that it will be rolling out the functionality broadly.
"Early this year, we started testing new approach individuals might flag remarks they feel to be irrelevant or improper," the firm behind the short-form video app wrote on Twitter. We've given it the once over, and now it's ready for worldwide distribution after the necessary testing has been completed.
We made it so that members of our community can provide us feedback more efficiently. TikTok says this helps them "better recognise unnecessary or improper comments," which encourages "real and authentic interactions" in the comments section.
Select users are exploring the addition of a "Dislike" button as a potential new feature on the popular video-sharing app TikTok.
If a user disapproves, neither they nor the commentator will be alerted that the comment was disapproved. No one will be able to see how many people have disliked a post if they leave a comment on it. People can retract their comments at any time by touching them again.
TikTok's new hate button is similar to those on other networks. For instance, YouTube's comment section features a dislike count that the public cannot view.
It is hoped that this new addition will serve its intended purpose.
