iOS 16, iOS 15.7, iPad OS 15.7, watchOS 9, and tvOS 16 are all released today by Apple.
Apple pledged to release significant new updates for many of its devices today. Start with Apple's iOS 16. The latest version of iOS, which was initially announced in June, is now available for download for iPhone 8 and later devices and will come installed on the new iPhone 14 models when they begin selling on Friday (aside from the iPhone 14 Plus, which is getting a later release starting on October 7 - but it too will ship with iOS 16 on board).
Apple has released iOS 15.7 for users unable to upgrade to iOS 16, which fixes various kernel vulnerabilities and difficulties with Contacts, Maps, Safari, Shortcuts, and WebKit. Due to problems with the new Stage Manager multitasking feature, iPadOS 15.7 is also being released with the same fixes, and this may be the last update to the 15. x branch before iPadOS 16 is released. Apple has confirmed the delay and speculated that we would receive iPadOS 16.1 directly, possibly as soon as next month.
watchOS 9 is also now available. It includes new watch faces, reworked notifications, the ability to view your sleep stages within the Sleep app, and a new app called Medications for keeping track of your daily doses of vitamins and supplements, and other drugs. The Workout app can now create personalized exercise routines. Updated watches are Series 4 and later.
Finally, the Apple TV hasn't been forgotten; the Nintendo Joy-Cons and Nintendo Pro Controller are supported in the latest tvOS 16 updates.
If you have enabled automatic updates, you ought to have received a notification long ago. A manual check on any supported device will start an automated download if it isn't.
