Apple has released Safari 156, a new technology preview with enhanced performance and bug fixes.
To its experimental browser Safari Technology Preview, which Apple initially announced in March 2016, Apple has published today a new upgrade. Apple created the Safari Technology Preview to try out new capabilities before they are implemented in the final product.
Web Inspector, CSS, JavaScript, Rendering, Media, Web Animations, Accessibility, Web API, and Safari Extensions have all seen performance boosts and bug fixes in Safari Technology Preview version 156.
The latest Safari Technology Preview is based on the Safari 16 upgrade and adds compatibility with upcoming macOS Ventura features like Live Text, Passkeys, and enhanced Web Extensions.
Unlike previous versions of Safari Technology Preview, the new build is compatible with computers running macOS 13 Ventura; however, it is no longer compatible with macOS Big Sur.
Anyone who has installed Safari can access the Safari Technology Preview update through the Software Update pane in System Preferences. The Safari Technology Preview site has the complete changelog for the upgrade.
Apple's goal in releasing Safari Technology Preview is to get user and developer input on the next iteration of the Safari web browser. Although it was made with developers in mind, the Safari Technology Preview can be downloaded and used without needing a developer account.
